剧情：唐朝开元年间，杨玄琰之女杨玉环被选为寿王妃。之后，唐玄宗李隆基看上杨玉环命其入玉真道观为女道士。不久，杨玉环正式入宫封为贵妃。杨玉环没有心机又具备歌舞才华，与宫中其他争权夺利的嫔妃迥然不同，使年迈的李隆基重新焕发青春的生机。爱屋及乌的心情之下，李隆基恩泽广被杨玉环家族，从兄杨国忠获得不次拔擢而当上宰相，杨家的亲眷都因杨玉环而飞黄腾达。但杨玉环也应了“红颜薄命”的诅咒。天宝年间，身兼平卢节度使范阳节度使的安禄山，出兵二十万造反。甚至在洛阳自封大燕皇帝。此次大规模的叛变导致李隆基出亡巴蜀。但军行至马嵬驿时龙武军兵变，杨国忠被杀。龙武军大将军陈玄礼恐杨贵妃将来报复，请求李隆基赐死贵妃；李隆基虽难割舍，却担心无法安定军心，不得不屈从部将所请。一个毫无政治野心、从未干预朝政的杨贵妃，就这样被缢死在荒僻的马嵬驿，结束了繁华又极端无奈的一生。
